Creates a professional office image by providing superior customer service while effectively assisting the medical providers in the care and treatment of patients, and by working cooperatively with other staff members to promote a smooth flow of work within the office. Performs assigned procedures and duties within the scope of practice as set forth by the Iowa State Board of Nursing. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Assists with in-office patient care: Rooms patients and takes vital signs, obtains history and nursing assessments. Assists or performs procedures as directed by the physician (i.e.; dressing changes, suture removal). Performs patient teaching. Obtains consents, communicates with other hospital departments to schedule tests and procedures. Calls pharmacies to order prescribed medications and refills. Returns call from patients, pharmacies, other physicians, etc., in a timely manner. Processes home care orders, communicating with physician(s), outside agencies and patients as needed. Accurately, completely, legibly and in a timely manner documents findings and outcomes of all above interactions in patient charts and initials each entry.
- Performs telephone triage according to physician-approved protocols and schedules work-in appointments for acute patients. Calls insurance companies for pre-certification. Assists physicians with in-office patient care as requested. Accurately, completely, legibly, and in a timely manner documents findings and outcomes of all interactions in patient charts and initials each entry.
- Collaborates with Central Stores to order and track medical supplies and equipment. Maintains medical supplies in treatment rooms.
- Performs general duties as needed or assigned: Cleans and bags treatment room instruments. Takes and receives instruments from Central Supply for sterilization as needed. Cleans rooms. Check sample medications for outdates monthly and properly disposes of outdated medications. Performs surgical infection QA bimonthly. Copies/prepare patient charts. Assists office staff as needed.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current Iowa or LPN license. BCLS. Successful completion of JCHC pharmacology qualifying examination.
Experience in a physician's office is preferred. Computer skills preferred.
